The Water Wish shawl is a garter stitch asymmetrical triangle shape with panels of simple lace arranged in 3 styling options. It is designed for Worsted and DK weight yarns with easy customisation to different yarn weights. This design was created during the Whackalong MKAL 2019 aimed at encouraging the use of handspun yarns and is also great for using mini skeins, stash-busting, and using up any leftovers from other projects. I do recommend a solid colour for the lace panels but all other colour styles and spin styles are suitable for the main body of the shawl, so get creative!

Along with written instructions, charts are provided, as well as a ticksheet for planning your knit and keeping track of your progress.

Yarn
Option 1 - Solid garter section followed by alternating panels of lace and solid garter stitch. You will need around one and a half times as much MC as CC.
MC: 155g worsted weight yarn (sample used 152g Malabrigo Rios which is 192m/210y per 100g/3.53oz col. Indiecita)
CC: 100g worsted weight yarn (sample used 98g Malabrigo Rios which is 192m/210y per 100g/3.53oz col. Water Green)

Option 2 - Striped garter section followed by alternating panels of lace and solid garter stitch. You will need around one and a half times as much CC as MC (please note that I knit my sample of this option using yarns of very different tension so I used less CC than I would require otherwise).
MC: 91g Rainbow Handspun singles yarn which is 507m/554y per 100g/3.53oz.
CC: 98g Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk which is 140m/153y per 25g/0.88oz col. 2.

Option 3 - Alternating panels of lace and solid garter stitch from start to finish. You will need around twice as much CC as MC.

Needles & Notions
5mm (US 8) needles. I like to use 80cm (31 1/2”) circular needles but straight are fine also. 1 stitch marker (optional). Tapestry needle for sewing in ends.

Tension/Gauge
Malabrigo Rios Sample: 16 sts x 26 rows per 10cm (4”) square over garter stitch pattern after blocking.

Finished Measurements
Malabrigo Rios Sample: Length: 220cm/87”, Depth: 45cm/18” after blocking.
Rainbow Handspun Sample: Length: 310cm/122”, Depth: 107cm/42” after blocking.
