The ear coverings, the most important feature of these Ear Warmer Headbands, are worked using the traditional Heel Stitch motif to provide warmth and wind protection. For added warmth a strand of angora, alpaca or other yarn may be added when working the ear coverings.

The Broken Rib motif used for the top headband provides stretch that allows the headband to fit comfortably.

The narrow garter stitch neckband of Wendy is great for long hair, while the wider Broken Rib motif used for the neckband of Andy provides additional warmth.

Detailed instructions are provided for all the suggested techniques to use, including yarn and needle selection, sizing, provisional cast-on, the chain selvedge, increasing by use of Grandmother Stitches, garter Kitchener stitch, and stockinette stitch Kitchener. Both charted and written instructions are provided. Suggestions for creating your own unique ear warmer headbands are included.
