Ever noticed how some stitch patterns seem to have faces peeping out between the eyelets? Eerie faces? Otherworldly faces? Well, we have and that how these socks were born.

Sitting in Lou’s garden one day, flipping through the pages of Barbra Walker’s Second Treasury, we started seeing alien faces in every eyelet lace pattern we looked at. We had evil aliens, fun aliens, drunk aliens (or maybe that was just us), marching aliens and praying aliens! We could not see a pattern without them in it.

The omens were too strong to ignore. Named for the birthplace of so many delicious conspiracies, these socks feature an army of gawping aliens marching up the leg to a horde of flying saucers, ready zoom away to the mothership.

Multi-pronged increases, emulating the many-tentacled, produce a comfortable, slightly rounded toe; while the heel boasts an alien temple motif that makes clever use of the decreases and blooms into the praying alien itself.

’Area 51’ is the twelfth pattern to be released under the Loumms Year of Socks. Check out our website for more Loummsy offerings!
