ColorPlay
I craved a little short row action, something with a diagonal flow, a dab of feather & fan (just because), and maybe a dual lace edging. Most of all, I didn’t want to think too hard while I knit. T
Colorplay adapts to my free-range, organic style of knitting with a difference: I gave fairly specific instructions so it’s suitable for those new to this relaxed style of knitting.
The shape of the piece is organically diagonal. I allowed it to go where it wanted to, my only intervention being to keep it within a size of approximately 57”, or 145 cm. Of course, length is whatever you desire, but I wanted something that could behave as either a wrap or a scarf.
I added a wedge-like extension to each end in seed stitch, a feature that adds even more quirkiness to the overall design. For practical purposes, these sturdy little additions also serve as ties when I want the piece to stay in place.
YARNS & NEEDLE SIZE
Anything. Really. I used mostly Hand Maiden Fine yarns Silk Maiden (silk & wool), Sea Silk (silk & Seacel), and their Mulberry Tussah silk, plus Blue Heron silk merino and Malibrigo Silky Merino. I also dabbed in a touch of Blue Heron Rayon Twist and Alchemy Synchronicity. Though most yarns range in the DK weight, a few lace-weights and a bulkies managed to find their way in there, too. This project is suitable for stash-busting.
Total yardage is approximately 400 yards.
Needle size: 5.5 mm/ US 9 but feel free to use whichever needle size suits you best. It appears that knitters have a “set point” for preferred needle sizes. I used long straights but circulars are perfect, too.
