Court Line
We are re-releasing all our Loumms Year of Socks patterns, carefully re-tech edited and in a spangly new layout. The complete list should be finished by early 2012.
These socks are dedicated to my dad on his 60th birthday, which just happens to coincide with the third month of the Loumms Year of Socks.
A long time ago my dad worked for an airline and traveled Europe and Northern Africa the way few could in the late Sixties. These socks are inspired by the stories of his adventures and dreams that I would one day follow in his foot steps. A constant paradox, my father’s personality defies pinning down, but I think I’ve got it in the mix of clean industrial lines, which sweep down the foot, and organic texture of a cabled rib that mottled the back of the leg.
It’s my version of the strange fusion of engine fuel and thorny hedgerows that still inspires my dad to explore the world.
A NOTE ON THE TEXTURED PANEL
The textured panel is a rather nifty little number that has you decrease and increase into the same stitch so you maintain the same number of stitches.
Take your left-hand needle and dip it down into the first st of the k2tog (which is sitting on the right-hand needle), and knit it as usual, then slip this new stitch next to the RH needle.
The resulting effect is that the knit st crosses in front of the k2tog. Lemon squeezy!
