Debi's Happy Feet
Inspiration comes from many places. My friend, Debi, sent me this pattern stitch and said, “Make a sock.” So I did. I hope she is happy.
Designed for the #LotsOfSocks KAL to benefit Down Syndrome International. World Down Syndrome Day is March 21 (3/21 because those with Down syndrome have a 3rd copy of chromosome 21). The idea behind #lotsofsocks is that on March 21st, everyone wears two different colorful socks to highlight the uniqueness of these individuals and show their support for the Down syndrome community. Join the KAL. One sock knit equals one entry. Lots of prizes!
Knit cuff down, the sock has a ribbed cuff which flows into an unique lace and cable patterned leg. The heel is a traditional Eye of Partridge (with columns of ribbing) heel flap/ gusset construction. There is a choice between continuing the lace/cable down the instep or changing to a lace instep (also for comfort for those with sensitive feet). And in keeping with the #LotsOfSocks mismatched socks, you could knit one of each instep!
The pattern has both charts and written instructions.
Shown in Mary Maxim Step It Up, Tie-Dyed colorway (430 yds/100 g) Medium (lace instep) with 6” leg and 9-1/2“ foot required about 310 yds. Yardage required will vary. Test knitters recommended using a skein of yarn with a minimum of 400 yds/100 g.
Thank you to my team of test knitters: angie (kachelmeier), diane b (hautecontre), diane k (hexlein), jamie (knitbyhand) and pati (patipoint). ♥
