Flocking Cowl
This fun, easy-to-memorize stitch pattern creates a very squishy, textured fabric; a great effect for a cotton yarn, which can tend to be a bit, well, unsquishy. The Garter Stitch base features slipped strands of yarn pulled up over several rows, literally squishing the fabric together with a V motif, vaguely resembling a flock of birds flying together (or flocking) over a cloudy sky.
Make a lighter weight, airier cowl with the heavy worsted weight Snuggle Puff yarn, which fluffs to look full but feels feather-light to wear. Or make a more substantial piece in the heavier weight Billow cotton, still cool for transitional weather but with a bit more heft. Stitch pattern is both written and charted.
1-color sample is larger size, 2-color sample is smaller size.
Note: The “Knit Under 3” step in the stitch pattern is worked the same as in a Butterfly Stitch (or sometimes called a Bowknot Stitch), so you can search video tutorials for that stitch pattern if you need some visual help.
