An easy lace pattern and a swatch of garter stitch combine to make a large shawl with a beautiful drape. It’s large enough to comfortably surround you and soft and airy enough to bunch up and wear as a scarf.

Started at the tip and worked to the base, the finished shape is an asymmetrical triangle.

The directions are given for DK weight yarn, but substituting different yarns is simple, as is changing the overall size.

Exact gauge is not crucial. Use a needle size that gives you a fabric that you like, but be aware that a change in gauge can affect the amount of yarn used and the size of the finished shawl.

The finished measurements, after blocking, are a wingspan of 62” and a back length of 29”.

You will need

  • 560 yards of DK weight yarn
  • a US size 7 (4.5mm) 32” circular needle
  • a removable stitch marker
  • a yarn needle.

The techniques used are k2tog, kf&b, M1, ssk.
