Harriet Tubman
Why Harriet? Because she was one of the most courageous women in American history and an icon for freedom. She was born into slavery in Maryland but managed to escape. But she never forgot that others still lived as slaves, so she risked her life many times returning to save others. Using a network of secret roads and safe houses, known as the Underground Railroad, she rescued many people. And she was never caught.
