Heartpops
Heartpops is a sweet beanie with a texture that really pops! Its embossed hearts are framed by a lattice that flows out of the ribbing, around the hearts, and into a star-shaped crown.
Four sizes are included, from Child Small to Adult Large. If you prefer a slouchy tam to a beanie shape, that’s simple - it’s all down to how you block it. Add a pompom if you wish—the bigger the better!
Skills needed include knitting in the round, 1/1 mini-cables, m1 increases, and the occasional special increase and decrease (which are described in the stitch glossary). Both written and charted instructions are included.
Materials: 89 (117, 182, 222) yards / 81 (107, 166, 203) metres of DK-weight yarn. The grey sample used 2 balls of Wool Days Scout in ‘Winter’s Day’ (100% organic merino; 114yds/104m per 50g ball), and the blue sample used 1 skein of Madelinetosh Tosh DK (100% merino; 225yds/206m per 100g skein) in ‘Button Jar Blue’.
Sizing: Child S (Child L, Adult S, Adult L), to fit 16 (18, 21, 23)” / 41 (46, 53, 58)cm head circumference.
Finished hat dimensions after blocking:
15 (17.5 20, 22.5)” / 38 (44.5, 51, 57)cm circumference;
5.5 (6.4, 7.8, 8.6)” / 14 (16.25, 19.8, 21.8)cm length, not including pompom.
Shown in Adult S. Note: the child sizes have one row of hearts, while the adult sizes have two.
Gauge: 22 stitches and 32 rows = 4”/10cm in (k1, p2) rib stitch, after blocking to open up the ribbing.
The stitch count in the body of the hat varies between 12-22 stitches per repeat, so I recommend measuring pattern repeats, not stitches, to check its gauge. Each chart repeat measures about 2.5” wide and 2.25” high after light blocking with the hearts still puffed up.
Both written and charted instructions are included.
Pattern is for personal use only.
