In honour of the great British spring, in which there are always April Showers, followed diligently by May Flowers, this month we decided to raise a glass to the multi-legged and the be-winged instead of the swatter. Thanks to the buzzing bees, my garden is full of flowers blooming and fruits fruiting. Where would I be without them?!

Knit up in a friendly, bright colourway, with an attractive honeycomb cuff, the bees in these socks zig and zag up the foot to gather around the leg. By the time they reach the cuff, they’ve worked themselves up into a frenzy of drunken over-pollinated debauchery. They’re hungry! And now is the time to sup.

Please note that the pattern does not contain a legend at the moment, as I’m still playing with the layout and couldn’t make them fit, so I’ve listed them here for now:

k = knit
k2tog = knit 2 together
k-wise = as if to knit
kbltog = knit through the back loop together with the next stitch
p = purl
p2tog = purl 2 together
p-wise = as if to purl
sl = slip, holding yarn to back of work (unless stated otherwise)
ssk = slip two stitches k-wise, return to needle and k
wyb = with yarn held back
wyf = with yarn held forward
yo = yarn over
