Is it a Beret or is it a Beanie?
The color design on this hat is created by working 3 accent colors, not as stripes with the hard-to-disguise jump at the end of the round. But instead it is worked as a helix or spiral. It is easy to do, the yarns just chase each other going round and round.
And this hat sports the latest in forward-looking fashion: The Pompom!
In order to follow these instructions, which are given row-by-row, you will need to know knit and purl, make-one increase (also called strand increase) both leaning left and right, and a double decrease done by sl2-k1-psso. (Done by slip 2 as-if-to-knit, knit one, then pass those 2 slipped stitches over the one knitted.)
Oh, and you also have to make a pompom. I used the little plastic device made by Clover, and I really like it. But I’ve heard tell of make-shift pompom creations with forks, cardboard and the like. There are many demonstrations on youtube if you want to make one without the Clover product.
It is a pretty fast and rewarding project, plus you might get to pull some bits out of your stash for the stripes!
