There is something about a pair of striking blue eyes that can immediately capture your attention. Now, if that bright blue was a sign of a very expensive drug habit, you might feel differently. Melange or “the spice” is the drug of choice for those who can afford it in Frank Herbert’s Dune series. Longer life spans, precognitive abilities and many other side effects come with its use. While some, like the Fremen, treasured the color effect, others hid the blue with colored contact lenses,

The desert sands of Arrakis is the only source of Melange. After an eruption from the volatile combination of water and sandworm excrement, dark purple splotches appear on the orange sand. Under the intense heat and desert air of Arrakis, Melange would form, The spice was available to many of the royal houses, who led posh lives, not even having to walk the ground if they so chose. Lisa Souza Dyeworks created the spice colorway of deep purple spotted orange yarn just for this project. Dyed on cashmere/silk, these socks bring a level of decadence. Like the royals of Arrakis, spoil yourself, keep your feet up, and spend the day reading Dune.
