This pattern is for a pair of cluster (“smocked”) socks. The stitch itself is a Japanese stitch that is just perfect for socks. There’s enough “give” to make them comfortable, but enough unusual cabling to make them interesting to look at and fun to knit.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a basic knowledge of knitting and purling, and smocking).

The sock stitch is both charted and written out line by line.

This pattern is written for 2 circular needles and is written for sizes Small, Medium, Large and Extra-large, and is sized by gauge.

The sample was expertly pattern tested by Gay Fehr, who can be contacted at grf1956@ gmail.com. The yarn used in the sample is Shepherd Sock by Lorna’s Laces, in colorway, Currie.
