Phoenix
Notably absent is a photo of the finished design. Please return here on Monday, February 9 for that. I got a little behind and things just snowballed. Phoenix is a cosy. Think tea cosy, worn like a tea cosy over your shoulders and upper arms. I began this design with a very clear idea about everything, and ended up taking a lot of turns and twists. It was hardly the phoenix rising. Although very clear what I wanted to create, I think I threw too many concepts into this for the amount of time I had to give to it. In the end, it all came out, but I did feel the burning embers under my feet before rising!
The concept made me think of all the things we need to repair: climate, social justice, social equality, over-consumption, everything! So I ended up with color, pieces, and uneven edges. I thought knitting it myself would be a good idea. It was not! I hate working with multiple colors, so although I quickly memorized the pattern and loved knitting it, I hated untangling my yarn. I am myself and it never changes!
So join this journey with me. Nine colors; 4 different yarns; lots of pieces and piecing. Of course I’ve worked everything out now, so you will likely have a much better experience. I thoroughly endorse narrowing the number of colors. I did enjoy using different yarns though. Read my interview here.
