Pillow is made from 2 identical pieces: Back and Front.

Back and Front are worked back and forth in rows of an hdc and ch-1 sp pattern.

Yarn color is changed to form horizontal lines of plaid pattern. When each piece is complete, surface slip stitch vertical lines are crocheted along the columns of ch-1 sps to complete the plaid.

To change yarn color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the st.
