Rumpus Recipe Shawl
This is more than a pattern. It’s a recipe to help you create so many shawls and get the results you want. It’s 18 pages long, chock full of charts, written directions, and pictures of each of the pattern sections. The last page is a piece of graph paper that you can use to help put together your work if you like to put it all together and make a plan ahead of time.
FEATURES:
- Use any weight yarn and needles to get the fabric you want. There is no set gauge.
- Every shawl will start the same way and then after that it’s up to.
- You can choose to do the center section plain stockinette or garter. If you want more pazzaz you’ll have choices for all over patterning or added in sections of patterns that you can use to make a sampler type shawl if you want.
- There will be a couple of edges and cast offs that you can use as well.
The pattern has:
- Beginning (2 choices)
- Middle section - all over pattern (6 choices)
- Samplers in lace - (6 choices)
- Samplers in texture (4 choices)
- Transition pieces - (5 choices)
- Edgings/endings (8 choices)
- Bind off (3 choices)
Yardage estimates for a couple I’ve completed:
- Corrie fingering singles - 360 yards (shawlette)
- Wensleydale Sport 2 ply - 440 yards plus 100 yards edging color (that’s the shawl in the photo that you can’t see but it’s a perfect average size)
- DK weight Merino with beads - 380 yards plus 180 yards of a ruffle edge.
If you’re spinning handspun, spin the center first and if you run out, you can always spin something contrasting for the edging….or plan ahead to have a contrast edging.
We’ll be knitting this as a KAL in the Spunky Club Group during the Ravellenic games. JOIN US!
This way we’re all doing a similar shawl. Sort of the same, yet different. Fun Rumpus good times!
