Rushmore Hat is a slightly slouched hat that lends itself to being worn in a variety of ways. The stitch pattern is stripes of stockinette and reverse stockinette that are gathered with simple pleating to create a complex looking design. The pleats make for an interesting texture and provide extra warmth. Knitting begins at the rolled brim and ends at the crown. You can personalize the hat with a pompom, tassel, or other embellishment, or complete it as pictured.

The pattern is written for a solid colored hat without further embellishment. Pattern includes a photo tutorial of how to work the pleats and is easy enough for anyone who is comfortable with knitting in the round.

There is a matching cowl here.
