Sizes are for width.

YARN: 2485m / 103,5gr ColourMart 2/48 NM Cashmere/Cotton/Silk (colour 303302)
Needles: 2,0 mm or US 0
Size 110cm x 194cm (during blocking) / 43” x 76” during blocking. Additional instructions are given for sizes 75cm and 60cm wide, with the same length as this one.
Also: T-pins for blocking, detergent for washing, sewing needle, large bath towels (1 dry, 1 damp). Options for blocking: frame + silk yarn or foam mats, or a bed.

This particular yarn colour isn’t available anymore. ColourMart does have the same weight 2/48NM = 2400m / 100gr in different colours / blends.

NOTE
I designed and charted this shawl design in 2013, after having seen a square version of it on the site of Shetland Museum and Archives. It is as close to the original patterns used in that shawl, as I could do at that time. But, my rectangle version looks finer knit than the original shawl on the photo.

NOTE II: I used a cone of Colourmart. They come in 150gr of a certain gauge. This cone had 2/48NM yarn, and the shawl weighed 103,5gr.
When you substitute this yarn with something else, 2500m will barely be enough. This shawl was about 2485m, and with even the slightest different gauge, you will run short with a 100gr skein of similar weight. I recommend to use the Colourmart cones, so you will have plenty.

For the Medium width and the Narrow width, you will need approx. 1700m and 1350m. But it’s better to have a bit more, to be sure.
Calculations for yardage with these 2 sizes are based on the yardage and percentages of the original shawl knitted by me.
