Knitting: Headband
This design started as an improvised project and quick knit for a Queen’s Day headband (Koninginnedag in the Netherlands). I didn’t have anything orange to wear and so I quickly picked out some orange yarn and knit this up. The Amaranth Headband, in its published form, is a more refined version that fits most head sizes, and is long enough to b...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The challenge was to use 1 skein of each color to create a curved shawl knit sideways so it could incorporate the lovely lace motif I had encountered when I made the Amaranth Headband. It really uses 1 full skein for the main color, and less than half of the lace color. This shawl is knit sideways from one point increasing toward the widest par...
Knitting: Shrug / Bolero
The Cambridge Shrug is a sweet, fuzzy shrug inspired by Catherine “Kate” Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge. It best evokes the shrug that Kate Middleton wore for her wedding reception when it is knit in fuzzy yarn with a soft halo.
Knitting: Vest
Carats Vest is a classic sweater vest with twisted-stitch detailing. Three twisted stitch diamond cables frame the front and a separate and adjustable waist-cinching accessory accents the back, making the fit of the vest quite personalized and adding a charming little detail. The simplicity of the ribbing and the unique diamond twisted-stitch c...
Knitting: Sleeveless Top
Named for the delicate two-colored flower, this simple two-colored camisole with lace edges is perfect for summer picnics. It’s also a nice travel project as it is worked flat from the bottom up. Lace is added from a provisional cast-on down to the bottom edge, and upward from open stitches. The lace edging is easy to memorize
Knitting: Mittens
Hopi Mittens are Norwegian style mittens with Hopi-inspired fair-isle motifs and two-color ribbing on the cuffs.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
The Oslo Star Hat’s motif is inspired by so many Norwegian Star patterns I have seen and loved. The Oslo Star Hat is a beanie or toque that begins with a ribbed brim. Choose your own adventure: create a 4”/ 10 cm ribbed brim turned up once halfway or a 6”/ 15 cm brim that’s folded double. After the ribbed brim is complete, a stranded motif cove...
Knitting: Cowl
Easy Fisherman’s Rib Cowl pattern for a quick project. Includes fisherman rib chart and written description, and recipe for a simple cowl. Measurements are given in inches.
Knitting: Vest
With winter on my mind and fun layering elements as inspiration, the final garment from the “Squishy” series came to be.
Knitting: Earflap Hat
The Squishy Chullo Hat pattern features lofty cables atop a purled field, a seed stitch brim, and fun earflaps to make sure the wind doesn’t sneak in. The hat is knit by first making the earflaps, and then casting on stitches to create the brim. Braids and pompoms are optional, but really do add an extra bit of fun to this really squishy hat.
Knitting: Mittens
The Squishy Mittens pattern features lofty cables atop a purled field. They are knit from the cuff up to the fingertips with thumb gusset built in, and thumb stitches picked up after the main knitting is completed.
Knitting: Pullover
This jumper is a real treat for lovers of cables, inspired by traditional fishermen’s sweaters but designed to fit and flatter women’s figures.
Knitting: Cowl, Headband, Beanie, Toque
Flexible and very quick recipe for a beanie with a hole large enough to fit a ponytail through it. It can also be modified to use as a cowl by casting on additional stitches.
