Fiona Morris

I have always knitted from a young age. I also learnt to crochet when I was 12 while recovering from a broke leg as the result of a skiing accident. (I still crochet but I don’t ski!). I knitted from patterns until my early 20s when I started to design my own hand knits.

When my son was born I left work and brought a knitting machine. I ran a small business for about 4 years selling machine knitted garments mainly for children.

We moved with my husband’s job to the south coat of England so I closed the knitting business and studied the City and Guilds course in machine knitting.

In the mid 1990s I started teaching machine knitting and then hand knitting as well. I also started worked as a freelance designer to small yarn producers initially and then working for a number of UK based knitting magazines.

I taught the City and Guilds Certificate and Diploma in Hand Knit Textiles as a distance learning course from 2000 until recently (2019). I do teach a wide range of workshops covering both hand knitting and machine knitting techniques in shops and other venues.

I have had technical articles and designs published in Knitting magazine. I have also had designs published in The Knitter, Simply Knitting, Let’s Knit and Yarn Forward/Yarnwise.

My first book, ‘Knitting with Beads’, was published in 2018.
