I love the way colors interact with each other. It is magic when I have a color that I would never dream of wearing, and yet, by pairing it with another color (or 4) it lends it a whole new shade and tone.
Then, when you start knitting, new elements of texture, light, shade, shadow, density and weight appear that come from the type of yarn, type of ply and stitch you use.
I don’t always know what I’m going to make when I start to create something new. I tend to just go to my shelves of yarn and pull out a few skeins, putting colors next to each other, and letting combinations dictate what the next color will be. As I do this, I start thinking of what those colors look like to me, is it a scarf, a sweater, mittens?
You can find some of my older designs at knitwhits.com and see my hand painted yarns at freiafibers.com. We also have a couple of Ravelry Groups, Knitwhits Knitters and Fabulous Freia Fibers, join us and share what you’ve done with your Knitwhits designs!
