Amsterdam Ave.
Amsterdam Ave. was designed for my son whose twenty block walks to school have been especially harsh this winter. He has grown to like neckwarmers for their warmth and convenience. When it’s especially frigid, he can pull his neckwarmer over his mouth and nose and when he no longer needs it, it’s easily tucked into a pocket.
Traditional fabrics have always appealed to me and knitting a version of the houndstooth pattern sounded like a fun way to incorporate stranded work into a warm, unisex cowl for the long, cold winter.
Choose black and white for a classic houndstooth look or select two of your favorite colors for a fun take on a traditional fabric.
The stranded work in Amsterdam Ave. is simple and since the pattern only calls for two colors, there are only a few ends to weave. While the Latvian Braid adds a little bit of knitting time, it’s fun to learn and detailed instructions, as well as links to video tutorials, are provided. A soft lining adds extra warmth and comfort for cold, blustery days.
Yardage Requirements
Approximately 150 yds each of two colors of fingering weight yarn.
Approximately 200 yds of a soft, fingering weight yarn for the lining.
The houndstooth pattern is charted only.
Thank you to Stitchbot, Monikerz, Sandjul, Raphael, and Betsyi for their encouragement, support, and for test knitting.
