The Gallant sweater in aran weight yarn is an advance beginner, top down, raglan sweater knitting pattern. You will need to be familiar with basic top down sweater construction in order to make it. Its simplicity is what makes it so special. It is cropped and it features a simple mock neck. Worked in the round in stockinette stitch all the way through. Intended to be worn with at least 10 cm of ease. 10 to 15 cm of positive ease is built into the pattern. Pattern is written in American knitting terms.

Gauge
13 stitches by 19 rows = 4” x 4” (10 x 10 cm) using size US10.5 / 6.50 mm needles in stockinette stitch in the round after blocking.

260, (290), 320, (360), 400, (440), 485, (530), 565 grams of Cardiff cashmere “Brushmere” 25 grams = 45 meters /49 yards. Fiber content 100% Cashmere. Please note that the yarn estimate is for the cropped version, if you make it longer this will require more yarn.

If you’d like to add a strand of mohair you will need approximately 60, (68), 75, (83), 93, (102), 113, (124), 132 grams of kid silk mohair such as Knit Picks “Aloft” 25 grams = 260 yards.
Suggested needles

For the neck and first half of the yoke you will need double pointed needles or (short tip) 12” size US10.5 / 6.50 mm, 16”+ 32” or 40” US10.5 / 6.50 mm 40 cm + 80 cm or 100 cm circular knitting needles or size to obtain gauge. Longer needles can be used for the neck and the sleeves if you use magic loop method.
