Here is a beautiful Shetland Shawl worked from the center to the outer edge. The main panel pattern is not a traditional Shetland pattern, but works fine with the rest of the patterns. I have used three different traditional patterns for the border. If you want a smaller shawl you can stop at the end of each pattern and start working on the edging. Traditionally Shetland shawls were knit on a garter stitch background. I have knitted mine in stockinette stitch except for the edging. You can knit yours on a garter stitch background so your shawl would not have a right or wrong-side.

This design is part of Winter 2008 issue of Lace ‘n More available at the single issue price of $10.00.
