Welcome to an introduction to Compsoptera opacaria, a moth taking wing only in the months of August -October. Compsoptera opacaria is part of the family Geometridae, a name coming from the “inchworm” like caterpillars….measure of the earth. Moths and their caterpillar forms are creators and destroyers-intertwined with our knitting passions.

This pattern contains 3 shawls, all worked from the bottom up and with patterning on both sides of work.
The patterns:
1) Autumn Moth - half circle (picture 4; in 2 sizes)
2) Autumn Moth - crescent-ish (pictures 2 and 3; in 3 sizes)
3) Moth Orchid - cresent-ish (picture 1; in 3 sizes)
Shawl 2 & 3 are similar, but with different yarns and gauge. Moth Orchid has a bit less patterning and a longer wingspan.

errata: in the small version of the crescent-ish shawl there is an error on the chart of row 71, the central repeat (blue box) should be 4 times instead of 5.
