Bacche is funny slouchy hat worked in two colors with an unusual construction.
The brim is worked first, from side to side, in garter stitch with a contrasting motif using bobbles and twisted (crossed) stitches.
The work is then turned in a 90° angle using short rows. Stitches are picked up along the upper side of the brim, using the contrasting color of the brim motif.
Then the crown is worked flat, maintaining a contrasting side in the same color and motif of the brim, while on the other side yos are performed in correspondence with the bobbles.
When the hat is finally binded off, the bobbles are used as buttons to close the hat in the round.
Yarn:
Approx 180 mt (197 yds) solid fingering weight wool or wool mix yarn for MC
Approx 100 mt (110 yds) solid fingering weight wool or wool mix yarn for CC
Needles:
US 2.5/ 3 mm circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge!)
Length is immaterial, as the hat is worked flat.
Notions:
10 markers
Tapestry needle to weave in ends
Gauge:
22 stitches x 48 rows = 10x10 cm (4”) in garter stitch with CC
28 stitches x 36 rows = 10x10 cm (4”) in stockinette with MC
Notes for sizing: it’s quite easy to change the size simply going up or down a needle size. But it’s important to consider the row gauge and not only stitch gauge (in garter stitch), because the brim is worked sideways.
