Battle Lines Mittens
In 2020 I sewed almost 700 face masks for the Masks for the Frontlines Iowa Facebook group and others who needed masks. They went to medical workers, teachers, school children, family and friends.
Each batch would be lined up and a photo taken to report how many we had finished. We had drawn our “battle lines” in the fight to stop the spread of COVID19. The simple Latvian designs that decorate the cuff of these mittens remind me of the rows of finished masks from those photos.
These nice, thick mittens or fingerless mitts have a stranded cuff to coordinate with the Battle Lines Hat pattern, and a plain stockinette hand for a simple, quick finish. The fingerless mitts have contrast color accents at the top of hand and thumb. Make a pair of these up in a bulky weight yarn of your choice to keep your hands warm in the coldest of weather.
Yarn: Bulky weight yarn of your choice.
Mittens: MC: 110 yds (100m); CC: 25 yds (23m) approximately.
Fingerless Mitts: MC: 90 yds (82m); CC: 30 yds (27m) approximately.
Samples: Made in Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky, 85% wool/15% mohair, 125 yds (114m), 4 oz (113g). MC: Deep Red, CC: White Frost.
