The Beck Beanie is the perfect beginner-friendly hat, ideal for learning how to knit and purl in the row. With simple crown shaping, it’s a great way to build your skills while creating something practical and stylish.

Knitted in super chunky yarn, this hat works up quickly – experienced knitters can have it ready in an evening, just in time for a frosty morning the next day!

The ribbed design allows for flexibility in width and length, so you can use two balls and knit it longer if you want a brim or with one ball keep it short and it becomes a a fitted beanie.

And the best bit? The pom pom! Add a pop of colour using leftover yarn from other projects to leave you with a hat that reminds you of past knits.

CONSTRUCTION
Knitted fat from the bottom up in one piece with one seam.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing, seaming. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces – mattress stitch.

YARN
One 100g of Purl &Jane Supermerino 100% merino wool, 100g/65m/71yds
Or you can use two strands of aran weight yarn held together – Two hanks of WYS Bluefaced Leicester Aran – Undyed 100% Bluefaced Leicester, 166m/181yds per 100g

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
9mm.

GAUGE (tension)
10 stitches and 14 rows to 10cm square over rib. I obtained this gauge with 9mm needles. It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

SIZE & FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
To fit adult head due to the nature of the rib pattern & individual gauges the finished circumference can vary from 50cm to 62cm. If the knitter gets the gauge as above the finished circumference will be approx. 54cm.
