Bitterscotch
Give me a dark, heathered rustic yarn and my heart grows three sizes. Brume Aran is exactly that yarn! Deep and dark and bouncy, with a rustic vibe and a gorgeous halo.
I paired it with a classic cardigan silhouette that would be as timeless as the yarn, which will last for many seasons to come. The goal was to create something that would work equally well with any outfit I add this sweater to -- for years!
To make sure the design details are clear and distinct in this gorgeous fiber, I used a garter stitch honeycomb pattern, worked with twisted cables here. As I often do, I made the hem ribbing flow into the body pattern. I then added a strong curved detail at the front and side edges of each cable panel, allowing the different textures to contrast nicely. And these stitches outside the panel - as always, provide a spot for easy modifications!
More bold detail along the button band makes for a beautiful line at center front, and sleeves feature a few more cables. Under each arm are contrasting rib panels, into which shaping is worked.
Finally, a nice, open collar is picked up around the tops of the button bands and worked in chunky ribbing to match.
Notes are in the pattern on how and where to tweak things for your desired length or width, both in body or sleeves. I love this short length and loose fit, but if you think you might like to lengthen, take a look at the test knits.
Color shown is natural brown.
Cable instructions are both charted and written.
Sizes
36.75(40.25,43.25,47.5,51.5)(56,62.5,66.5)” 93.25(102.25,109.75,120.75,130.75)(142.25,158.75,169)cm
Sizes reflect final, blocked fabric and are based on circumference of sweater at bust, worn buttoned. For fit shown, I suggest choosing the size that allows for about 5”/12.75cm of positive ease at bust.
Yardage by Size
950(1050,1150,1250,1350)(1500,1600,1700)yds
870(960,1055,1145,1235)(1370,1465,1555)m
If substituting yarn, I suggest a heavy worsted or light aran weight yarn in a wool or wool blend. A solid, heather, tweed or subtle semi solid will show off the pattern best. Yardage assumes pattern as written. If modifying length or width or substituting yarn, adjust quantity as needed.
