Braids and Berries Cowl
About this pattern:
This fun and feminine cowl is designed to match the Braids and Berries Hat. It gets its name from its lateral cable braids and because the bobbles look at bit like berries! The cowl tapers slightly from bottom to top to make it just a bit snugger around the neck.
Dimensions:
Circumference at the bottom = 24 ½” (26”); circumference at the top = 23” (24”); height = 9 ½”.
Yarn:
Malabrigo Mecha: bulky weight, 100% superwash merino wool; (100 g); 130 yards (119 metres).
Yardage:
Approx 115 g (150 yards / 140 m) of Malabrigo Mecha (shown in Dewberry colourway).
Gauge:
Gauge is always important, but especially so when knitting with Mecha, which can knit up anywhere between an aran and a bulky weight, depending on the skein. It also has a tendency to “relax” with wet-blocking, so I encourage you to wet-block and thoroughly dry your swatch. If you find your gauge too tight, then go up a needle size or knit the larger size.
Skill Level:
This pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner or intermediate knitter who is familiar with cables; and basic increases and decreases.
Follow these links to video tutorials on the right lifted increase, and how to do the four stitch (K1P1K1P1) bobble.
Pattern Notes:
This cowl is knit from the bottom-up, in-the-round, with a ribbed hem and neck edge. It is adorned with a lateral cable braid at the top and bottom, and in between are a few rounds of bobbles. Instructions are written only, and links to helpful video tutorials are provided within the pattern.
A Note About Needle Sizes:
I understand that it may be hard to get 6.5 mm needle tips in Europe, so for my European friends, please use your 7 mm needle tips when directed to use 6.5 mm needles.
