The Burren Ombre top is an easy modern summer knit that is great to wear on warm, sunny days. Flattering A-line shaping, the soft drape of the fabric, simple raglan lines, and subtle flutter sleeves create a dreamy and feminine garment. Since the fabric is more open and the armholes deeper than a standard top, this piece is intended to be worn layered over a camisole.
The colors in this top were inspired by my memories of The Burren in County Clare, Ireland. Vibrant in its hues of dark charcoal on rainy days and powder grey on the sunny ones, I was mesmerized by this breathtaking rock landscape. Construction Details
This garment begins at the neckline and is worked in the round to the bottom. A garter stitch border is worked at the neckline, raglan lines, sleeve edging, and bottom hem. This project is worked with a double strand of yarn. Switching the colors out at regular intervals creates the ombré effect. Subtle A-line shaping in the body creates a flattering and feminine shape.

To fit bust sizes: 29-32 (33-36, 37-40, 41-44, 45-48, 49-52)”

Yarn: 3 colors of Shibui Linen (Fingering Weight/CYCA #1, 100% linen, 246 yds 225m/50g ball): #2033 Cascade (A), 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 3) balls; #11 Tar (B), 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 4) balls; #2003 Ash (C), 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3) balls.
To use a different Fingering Weight yarn, plan for about 1400 (1500, 1650, 1750, 1950, 2300) yards total. Linens, cottons, silks, and bamboo blends work best for the intended drape of this design.

Gauge: 17 stitches and 26 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch holding yarn doubled using size US 8 (5mm) needles. Wet block swatch before measuring.

Needles: US 8 (5 mm) circular needles 16”, 24”, 32”, and 40” lengths, US 7 (4.5 mm) 16” for neckline. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Other materials: 5 stitch markers (one of a distinguishing color or style), tapestry needle.

Additional Notes:
• A schematic is provided with additional finished garment measurements to aide in selecting the appropriate size.
• Linen will soften and open a bit once it has been washed and blocked. It is recommended that you wash your swatch before checking the tension.
• The fabric is intentionally worked loose to create great drape and softness.
• Once the neckline has been worked and you begin the raglan increases, change needle length as necessary to accommodate new stitches.
• Change colors at the intervals noted in the Color Change Guide provided in the pattern.
• You may change the color lengths and shading as you desire. However, keep in mind that the yardage requirements will alter if you change stripe length. The Color Change Guide is a suggestion for getting the same ombré look as the sample.
