I love the clothes from The Slow Wardrobe; they are comfortable, easy to wear, easy to care for and make for a relaxed life. I have created a shawl to accompany these fabulous clothes and named it Candleford as a nod to Flora Thompson who wrote the trilogy ‘Larkrise to Candleford’. Flora lived in Grayshott for a time, where The Slow Wardrobe is based, and wrote about her time there in her novel ‘Heatherly’.

Candleford is a top down, crescent shaped shawl offering the option of either a stocking stitch body or an all-over lace design. Originally designed to be knit in Tall Yarns LayerCake Linen Lace, though it is suitable for any yarn of the same weight, it is incredibly simple to make and stylish to wear.

With the ability to buy yarn to perfectly match your Slow Wardrobe clothes you can be completely colour co-ordinated!

REQUIREMENTS
Yarn and Finished Dimensions: As written 63” (160cm) wide, 18” (46cm) deep before blocking and 74” (188cm) wide, 18” (46cm) deep after (both versions). Measurements taken using Tall Yarns Layercake Linen; this shawl can be achieved from one 600m/100g skein. Please note that dimensions will differ depending on yarn, tension and blocking, these are therefore given as a guide only. Most yarns of 600m/100g would be suitable for this pattern.
Circular Needles: 3.25mm (US3), 3.5mm (US4), 3.75mm (US5) and 4.5mm (US7) about 1m in length or needles to create a pleasing fabric – your fabric should not be too dense and should have good drape. I found it useful to use wooden needles when working with the linen.
You will also need: stitch markers, just under 450 Miyuki size 6 seed beads (650 for the all over lace version), 1mm crotat hook or 0.75mm crochet hook, needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats.
Gauge: The gauge achieved on this shawl was 22 sts to 4” before blocking and 17 sts to 4” after using 3.5mm (US4) needles over stocking stitch.

You will find it very useful to print your pattern on a colour printer or mark bead placement in coloured pencils.

The pattern is both fully written and charted throughout.
