Crusher Cowl
The Crusher Cowl is a part of the Geek-A-Long pattern series. The Geek-A-Long was created to raise awareness for Child’s Play Charity. $1 from each sale of this pattern will be donated to Child’s Play. So fire up your favorite knitting-oasis Holodeck program, and congratulate yourself on making the world a little brighter.
Worked in round, employing a variety of fun, simple stitches, the Crusher Cowl is more exciting than an away mission to a party planet. German short rows create an unexpected undulating pattern across the body of the cowl. Piping at the top and bottom, combined with a tubular cast on and bind off provide an exciting texture, and alternating rounds of simple slipped sts and plain stockinette in the center make this a fast and easy knit. The pattern includes links to video tutorials for the cast on, and piping.
Yarn
One skein of Lattes & Llamas Vacation Yarn (100 grams/ 463 yards) in ‘Alistair’ (mc) and 1 skein each of Lattes & Llamas Mini Vacation (20 grams / 92 yards) in ‘Caprica’ (cc1), ‘Mrs. Hudson’ (cc2), and ‘Daredevil’ (cc3). A kit for this project is available.
Needles
2 pairs US5 / 3.75 mm 16” circular needles, or size required to obtain gauge. A second pair of needles in the same size as your first pair is called for in the tubular bind off.
Notions
2 stitch markers plus 1 extra (different) maker to indicate the beginning of the round.
Gauge
20 sts = 4” in garter stitch, blocked.
Gauge is not crucial for this project, but variations will affect yardage and final measurements.
Sizing
Working at gauge in fingering weight yarn results in a medium cowl, designed to drape at the neck. To produce a larger cowl increase yarn weight and needle size. Sport weight yarn on US 6 needles or worsted weight yarn on US 7 needles will produce a large and extra-large cowl, respectively.
