Discovering Overlay Mosaic
Discovering Overlay Mosaic is a very simple design (the repeat is just 4 sts x 4 rows), making it a perfect introduction to this awesome and addictive crochet technique.
It is worked in single-colour rows, and includes various options for finishing off - including a simple envelope border to hide the loose ends.
There are no mid-row colour changes, making the pattern perfect for beginners to the technique, and also for anyone wanting something easy to do whilst watching TV.
If you are unfamiliar with mosaic crochet or the envelope border, don’t worry, they are much easier to do than they look, and step by step instructions are given.
The pattern can be used to make virtually anything you want, from a small coaster or scarf to a bedspread.
You can also use any smooth-textured yarn you want - just make sure you choose a hook appropriate to your yarn.
Videos for the main pattern and the Envelope border are available from my YouTube channel:

To simplify the abbreviations, and avoid the need for separate UK and US versions, the pattern is written in my ’Universal’ terms (I developed these terms for the Jacquard Temperature Blanket and have also used them in all my subsequent overlay mosaic crochet CALs and patterns).
If you want to find out more about my Universal terms, please see this short video https://youtu.be/IsubXOfEuVw
Dutch translation is also included, courtesy of my dear friend Caroline Tigchelaar.
