Knit this classic ribbed scarf! It’s just k2, p2 ribbing—but strategic increases and decreases make it weird. I mean, interesting.


Really though, this project makes a satisfying classic-look ribbed scarf—but one with a unique angle to keep intermediate knitters interested. It’s a great way to show off scraps, which is where the sample gets that colorblock look.

The sample is made entirely from scraps of Malabrigo Yarn in worsted/light aran weight—Rios, Worsted, and Washted. If you’re working with these yarns, you’ll need about three skeins total of any combination of them to make an ample scarf. This scarf is 6’4”/1.9m long, and took about 567 yards of yarn to make.

Materials:

• 575yds or 3 skeins of Malabrigo Yarn Worsted, Rios, or Washted, or a combination of all three
• 1 24” circular needle, used to knit flat, in US 7-9/4.5-5.5mm, or size needed for gauge.
• tapestry needle for weaving in ends
• optional: removable stitch markers

(This scarf is completely reversible, so I like to place a removable stitch marker so I know which side is the RS/odd rows.)

Gauge:
Gauge is 15 sts and 25 rows over 4”/10cm of blocked 2x2 rib pattern, worked flat.

Measurements:
The sample is 11”/28cm wide by 76”/1.9m long.
