This top-down triangular shawl was designed for James River Yarn Crawl that starts in Richmond, Virginia and progresses toward the Tidewater area, near the ocean. The stitch pattern of the top part of the shawl is representing river locks, a mechanism that is used to raise and lower boats between different levels of water in the river. Then the shawl flows into an old favorite of many crocheters, Feather And Fan pattern, that unmistakenly resembles the ocean waves. The shawl is designed as a 1 or 2 skein project and has a separate knit version as well.

Skill level: beginner to intermediate
Finished dimensions: Small: about 49 in / 124.5 cm at the top edge, and about 21.5 in / 55 cm from top to bottom. Large: about 65 in / 165 cm at the top edge, and about 29 in / 74 cm from top to bottom.
Yarn: fingering weight yarn, size 1; about 400 yds / 365 m for Small size, 710 yds / 650 m for Large size. 2 skeins of Little Fox Yarn Vixen 80% superwash merino / 20% silk, Deep Water colorway, were used for this sample (tag info 400yds / 100 g).
Hook: US G (4 mm) or size to obtain gauge.
