Eleonora Shawl
And it’s totally off! -50%!!
I have lost myself to brioche knitting. Deeply and definitively. I seem to be seeing brioche everywhere at the moment. If you’re looking for a really exciting knit sprinkled with a little challenge then Eleonora Shawl is your next project.
update May: Japanese version added
Thank you, Keitotradingco!
Eleonora Shawl uses the same motif as my Eleonora Hat. This hat just needed a companion.
This knit is a reversible and elegant design which calls you to wrap yourself up in it. Set off your favorite colorful or variagated yarn on one side with contrasting background color on the other side. The result is like two different shawls because the fabric is completely reversible.*
It is worked from the bottom point up to the top in one piece. This leafy shawl begins with five stitches at the bottom tip and increases steadily as it is worked to the top of the triangle. The two-color brioche pattern is worked in easily memorizable 10 - row repeats.
Gauge is not crucial for this design, but if your gauge differs from the pattern gauge, the dimensions of your shawl will be different as well. You can keep knitting until it has reached the size you want or you run out of yarn. The pictured shawl was made with sport weight yarn, but the pattern can easily be worked in DK, fingering or lace weight yarn.
YARN: Drops Baby Merino (Sport Weight), 50grams /1.76 ounces - 191 yards / 175 meters, 100% merino wool
MC yarn – Black (21); CC yarn – White (01). Or use any other sport weight yarn.
YARN CONSUMPTION: 150 gr/5.29 oz of each color, MC and CC. My shawl weighs exactly 300gr /10.56oz Yardage doesn’t include tassels.
NEEDLES: 3.00mm/US 2 1/2 circular needle,
100cm / 40” long or size needed to get gauge.
FINISHED SIZE: 176cm/69” wingspan x 70cm/27.5” height at spine. All measurements taken from relaxed fabric after blocking.
OTHER TOOLS: Tapestry needle; scissors; row counter (if needed); blocking tools
GAUGE: 22 sts x 28 rows = 10cm /4“ in two-color brioche stitch, knitted 3.00mm / US 2 1/2 needles
Needle size is a recommendation only. Always use needle size necessary to achieve given gauge (to save your time). My personal knitting tension is tight.
TECHNIQUES USED: Knitting/brioching back and forth, knitting, purling, brioche decreases/increases (brLsl dec, brRsl dec, brkyobrk, br4st inc, brk1, brp1, sl1yo).
The pattern includes written and charted instructions, tips and links to video tutorials and photographs. It has been totally tested and tech edited.
This pattern is ideal for an adventurous beginner.
Special thanks to my wonderful test knitters! Without you, this pattern isn’t here.
