Ever wandered into a yarn shop and picked up a skein of something that you weren’t sure what to do with yet but couldn’t leave without? Spincycle’s yarns are like that for me. The nearest yarn shop that sometimes has some is more than five hours away so when I stumble on some of this good stuff, I feel like I’ve found buried treasure! I made this sweater to put to good use the skeins that I’ve collected. For the yoke, I chose a contrast color that felt most like spring to me. I only had one so I decided to go with a more tonal contrast for the body and sleeves of the sweater. The result is a pullover that reminds me of things starting to bloom and grow!

The colorwork pattern is so fun to work that I could see making one of these for every season. One in hues of black and white using Nightshades + Daylights from Harrisville designs for the winter, Devilish Grin + Midsommar for a Valentine’s Day pullover Melancholia + Midsommar + Deep Bump for all of the spring thaw feels or use Shades of Earth plus Salty Dog for fall!

Note: The unique quality of Dream State knits up closer to a DK weight than a worsted weight for some knitters. You may find that a DK weight yarn (depending on your gauge) will work well for this project too. Your swatch will be your guide.

Gauge
20 stitches and 30 rounds = 4” / 10 cm in both Stockinette Stitch & Colorwork Pattern, knitted in the round, on larger needles.

Suggested Needles*

• US Size 5 / 3.75 mm circular needle, 16” / 40 cm / length for the neckline AND 24 - 40” / 60-100 cm length (depending on the size you’ve chosen) for the hem ribbing.
• US Size 6 / 4 mm 24 - 40” / 60-100 cm length (depending on the size you’ve chosen) for the sweater yoke and body. Double pointed needles of the same sizes suitable for small circumference knitting for the sleeves. Always choose the needle size that you need in order to obtain the pattern’s gauge.*
