LotR Eye of Sauron
NOTE: Extra PDF download includes easier to read charts that can be printed and then taped together.
This is my second Lord of the Rings blanket. The first one featured the Tree of Gondor and you can find a link to it here:
https://knittingknicely.etsy.com/listing/1005215822/lord-...
This second version features the giant fiery Eye of Sauron. The blanket is double knit and is fully reversible. On both sides is written J.R.R Tolkien’s “One Ring” poem. On the first side, it is written in Sindarin, which when pronounced correctly, will sound out the English version of the poem:
“One ring to rule them all
One ring to find them
One ring to bring them all
And in the darkness bind them.”
On the second side, the poem is also written in Sindarin, but when pronounced correctly, will sound out the Black Speech version of the poem:
“Ash nazg durbatulûk
Ash nazg gimbatul
Ash nazg thrakatulûk
Ash burzum-ishi krimpatul”
You can use the colors as shown, or you can choose your own favorite contrasting colors. I used Expression Fiber Arts ‘Luster’ Sport in the colors Abyss and Drops of Jupiter, but you may choose another yarn, as long as it is a light weight yarn. The gauge is not extremely important since this is not a fitted garment, but the size of the blanket will depend on the size of your yarn and needles. If you choose a different size yarn and/or needles, you may need to account for the change in yardage. I chose a light weight yarn so that the blanket would be lap size.
There is a special technique used for the edges, so you will have finished, beautiful edges without having to add anything to the body of the blanket. At the end of each row, the last two stitches (front and back) are slipped. There is a link to a video tutorial for this technique included in the pattern.
You’ll also find a link to a video tutorial on how to cast on invisibly with two colors so you get a finished look to your beginning edge!

There are several helpful video tutorial links included in pattern.
The blanket is worked flat with the last stitch of each side (front and back) slipped to create a finished edge.
The bind off is worked using Kitchener stitch to match the invisible cast on.
The words are written in Sindarin, an Elvish language created by J.J.R. Tolkien.
Both front and back can be read correctly, as it is knit with non-mirroring sides.
