Fay Sweater
Fay is a #sizeinclusive cropped sweater that is light and intended for layering. It has short sleeves and plays with different yarn weights to give interest visually and while knitting it up.
I have knit several yoke sweaters and have always struggled with the fit of them; either the neck was too high, armpit depth too low, or shoulders were too tight. I set out to make a yoke sweater that gave me the drape and fit that felt good to wear. I wanted the fit to be effortless; like I didn’t even feel it on-it was just a part of me. I wanted a yoke sweater that was ‘light’ in weight and looks. I was able to create this ‘lightness’ in weight and feel by switching back and forth between dk and lace yarn. Fay’s cropped and loose fit allows it to be perfect for layering. I am happy with how this design turned out and I hope you will be, too!
Pattern Description:
Fay is worked from the top down with basic yoke construction. First, you cast on for the neck. After collar ribbing, you begin short rows to shape the back of the neck. The yoke is created with standard increases. To add interest, I have switched between dk and lace weight yarn. This creates a striping effect and fun texture difference in the sweater. Fay is also worked in an all-over garter in the round pattern. Once yoke depth and width are created you will split for the sleeves and continue to work in the round for the body. The sleeves are short in length and worked after the body is completed. This design was created with a cropped fit for easy layering, but can easily be adjusted to longer lengths. The underarm gap is sewn together at the end.
