Last summer I walked in the never ending twilight of the Shetland simmer dim across sheep pastures dotted with arctic wild flowers that ended abruptly in windy cliffs over the North Sea. I had brought with me a sketchbook and water color paints, pencils and a camera but I found them completely inadequate to capture what I wanted to remember about the scene. Instead I collected a ‘paint box’ of shetland yarns in shades of the Shetland summer to knit the landscape. This hat is the first in a small series of Shetland ‘stories’ from my adventures. It is a one-size-fits-most beanie with narrow bands of simple easy to knit peerie motifs in subtle heathery shades to represent the the rolling hills and rugged little wildflowers.
