Flying Geese
I created this early September 2017 - the summer had been cold in the Southern Finger Lakes (40 degree nights) and a cab driver told me that he already saw the birds flocking.
When the invitation to be designer-for-a-day came from the Freeform Group on Ravelry, I returned to birds, a favorite theme, and thought of those beings whose migration signals both winter and spring, the beautiful geese.
As these were to be components in a freeform hat, I did not include a second partial wing—which you might see in silhouette, and I forwent the feather spread.
This pattern has two different geese, one smaller, one larger, similar but a bit different.
Two of the same together could be lightly stuffed to make a broach.
The geese shown are in Malabrigo Rios and Koigu Kersti – a worsted weight and dk, both crocheted with a D/3.25mm hook.
You could use any yarn weight you choose, wih a hook at least two sizes smaller than that recommended for the yarn.
