Formosa Shawl
Formosa is a triangular shawl and it is easier to knit than it looks. I tried to design something that I could knit at the pub or at knit night- something pretty, but not monumentally taxing. The main stitch is stocking st and the lace stripes are straightforward. Each repeating lace pattern has at most 2 sts on any given row. The edge and central spine are predictable.
The pattern has an element of “build-your-own” to it, as you get to choose how many lace stripes to have and when to start each. The sample in the pattern has its lace stripes after half the yarn was used up, and my blue version (see pics on left) had stripes after every 10 or so rows of st st.
The instructions are written to suit DK or 4-ply, and it looks great in stripes of colour too, so feel free to use up bits and ends and stash bust!
Sizes
Size will vary on type and amount of yarn used and your tension.
Sample measurements during blocking: Wingspan: 43in/109cm; Spine: 22in/56cm
Sample measurements once relaxed: Wingspan: 41in/104cm; Spine: 20in/51cm
Yarn
