Fill this little Gingerbread House Pocket with Christmas treats and hang from your tree or mantelpiece.

Each gift bag is made from two house-shaped pieces, with the roof in garter stitch with a slipped stitch edge, and the body in stockinette stitch. You can decorate as you like to personalise your project; perhaps add name tags, or make a set of numbered houses as an advent calendar.

Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, each is knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round). This house is decorated with a 2 stitch i-cord “icing” around the door and window. The pocket pieces are joined together with a single crochet edging, but you could sew together and perhaps add a decorative blanket stitch edging instead if you don’t crochet.

A pair of 3.5mm straight single pointed knitting needles and 3.5mm crochet hook (US 4).

Paintbox Yarns Simply DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; one 100g/276m skein in each colour will be more than sufficient.

Tapestry needle, buttons and ribbon bow to decorate.

One size only - 13cm tall x 9.5cm wide.

For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases.
