Entrelac and lace come together to create the stunning fabric of this stole. Though the end result looks complex, working one unit at a time keeps the knitting simple. A delicate edging gives the stole its perfect finish.

The body of this stole is worked in entrelac, in three Estonian lace patterns. It’s then framed by a garter border worked in the round, and finished with an applied lace edging.

Some prior experience with entrelac may be helpful, but isn’t strictly necessary. All that’s needed is an understanding that entrelac fabric is built as a series of units, worked one at a time. Except at the edges of the fabric, stitches for the current unit are picked up from a previous unit; as the unit is worked, it’s joined to an adjacent unit via decreases. In this stole, the entrelac construction is kept simple by limiting all the units to rectangles, with no “filler” triangles.
