GLIMMINGE
In the region of Skåne, in the southernmost parts of Sweden, the buildings are distinct. The old windmills that used to mill grains, stand side by side with the timbered houses scattered around the flat lowland landscape. Between them, castles remind you of the area’s importance in Swedish history as the old recidences of nobilities and aristocrats.
Glimminge is a sweater that depicts all these three distinct building types - the typical facade of the timbered houses at the bottom, the windmills in the middle and at the top is the outline of one of the main landmarks in Skåne, the medieval castle Glimmingehus.
The sample sweater is part of a craft exchange and is knit in a locally produced yarn from Skåne, using natural coloured finewool yarn that is soft and warm. It is knit in the round like an Icelandic yoke sweater, which means the only sewing required is a few invisible stitches by the armpits. This technique is ideal for those new to knitting sweaters. The pattern is written for Icelandic létt-lopi yarn, but ideally you could use your locally produced yarn bought directly from your local farmer. It is knit bottom up, starting with either the body or the sleeves. The three pieces are then placed together on the needles and you knit the yoke in one piece from chart, using stranded knitting. The yoke starts from the back of the left side shoulder.
