GLIMMINGE
In the region of Skåne, in the southernmost parts of ­Sweden, the buildings are distinct. The old windmills that used to mill grains, stand side by side with the ­timbered houses scattered around the flat ­lowland ­landscape. ­Between them, castles remind you of the ­area’s importance in Swedish history as the old ­recidences of ­nobilities and aristocrats.

Glimminge is a sweater that depicts all these three ­distinct building types - the typical facade of the ­timbered houses at the bottom, the windmills in the middle and at the top is the outline of one of the main landmarks in Skåne, the medieval castle ­Glimmingehus.

The sample sweater is part of a craft exchange and is knit in a locally produced yarn from Skåne, using ­natural coloured finewool yarn that is soft and warm. It is knit in the round like an Icelandic yoke sweater, which means the only sewing required is a few ­invisible stitches by the armpits. This technique is ideal for those new to knitting sweaters. The pattern is written for ­Icelandic létt-lopi yarn, but ideally you could use your locally produced yarn bought directly from your local farmer. It is knit bottom up, starting with ­either the body or the sleeves. The three pieces are then placed ­together on the needles and you knit the yoke in one piece from chart, using stranded knitting. The yoke starts from the back of the left side shoulder.
