Don’t let the math reference fool you - Gradient Geometry is a simple, triangular-shaped shawl consisting of garter and stockinette stitch. The shawl is worked from the center out, in-the-round to form a diamond shape, which is subsequently joined to two triangles using the three-needle bind off method. The border is then worked using the live stitches that were previously placed on hold.
The red/brown shawl is knit in Miss Babs Gradient in Yummy 2-ply Toes in Sugar Maple (red) and Espresso (brown). The purple/gold shawl is knit in Dutch Iris One (purple) and Old Gold (gold).
Gauge:22 sts by 52 rows = 4 inches in garter st
Yarn: The shawl uses two gradient sets, 6 skeins per set, 133 yds/skein. This shawl also lends itself to using up scrap yarn or you can substitute two 400-yard skeins for each gradient set. (You can also be creative and make up your own “gradient(s)” by picking out 12 individual skeins of Miss Babs 2-ply Toes found here.)
Size:Approximately 81” along neckline by 33” at deepest point
Needles & Notions:
One US 5.0 (3.75 mm) 16-inch circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge
Two US 5.0 (3.75 mm) 32-inch circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge (see note in pattern about needles)
Four US 5.0 (3.75 mm) double-pointed needles (DPNs)
One size D (3.25 mm) crochet hook (only needed if using optional Emily Ocker cast on)
Ten stitch markers; one a different color

A special “Thank you!” to OrangeSmoothie for her fabulous knitting (as always) of the Dutch Iris One/Old Gold sample!
