This pattern is named for Grover’s Mill, New Jersey, the location of the martians landing in the Orson Wells radio dramatization of H. G. Wells novel The War of the Worlds. I grew up not far from Grover’s Mill, listening to the radio broadcast was an annual tradition in our home.

This richly cabled top down raglan cardigan can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. The front and back feature rich, cabled panels, while diagonal cables highlight the raglan line and continue down the sides of the sweater. The lower portion of the sleeves features the same cable found at the center back of the sweater.

Stitches are picked up along the front, and back neck edges for the front band and collar. The shawl collar is shaped with short rows. There are no buttons on the front edges.

This cardigan is meant to be worn with positive ease. The photos of Grover’s Mill in the magenta shade, knit with Swan’s Island Natural Colors Worsted, show Sofie wearing Grover’s Mill with about 2” of ease. The soft blue-grey version is Quince and Co Lark worn with about 8” of ease. To find your size, add the desired amount of ease to your bust measurement and select the corresponding size.
