Hinterland is inspired by the northern lights in Norway. This sweater features easy top down and seamless construction, is knit entirely in the round, and options for a rolled or ribbed neckline are included. The colorwork yoke is enjoyable, rhythmic, and engaging to knit and with just 2 colors per row, this pattern is suitable for those who are new to colorwork. The cuffs are my favorite part about this design! We knitters often joke about being stuck on sleeve island, but with fun colorwork at the end, it might just motivate you to bang these sleeves out.

Yarn: (Note: you can use fingering or sport weight for this pattern - I suggest swatching to make sure you can meet gauge. For my Hinterland, I used fingering weight for the main color and sport weight for the coordinating color.)

Main Color (MC): La Bien Aimée Merino Singles, 100% superwash Merino, fingering weight, 400 yds / 366 m per 100 g Colorway: Winterfell 3 (4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5)(5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6) skeins

Coordinating Color (CC): Spincycle Yarns Dyed in the Wool, 100% superwash US wool, sport weight, 200 yds / 183 m per skein.
Colorway: Salty Dog 2 skeins for all sizes.

NEEDLES (Note: Swatch to determine what sizes you need to use. Needle sizes are only a suggestion.)
Needle A: US 3 / 3.25 mm DPNs or 16” (40 cm) circular (neckline), matching set DPNs (for cuff), and 24” (60 cm) or longer circular for waistband.
Needle B: US 5 / 3.75 mm DPNs and 32” (80 cm) or longer circular needle for body and magic looping sleeves.
Needle C: US 6 / 4 mm DPNs and 32” (80 cm) or longer circular needle for magic looping colorwork cuffs, to ensure cuff is not too tight.

GAUGE
22 sts and 34 rnds = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette st, in the round, on size B needles.

CONSTRUCTION
This sweater starts at the neckline and is worked seamlessly, top down, and in the round. Short rows are worked to shape the neckline. Next, the colorwork yoke is knit. The body and sleeves are then separated- stitches for the sleeves are transferred to spare needles or waste yarn and underarm stitches are cast on. The body is worked on one circular needle and finished with a ribbed hem. Sleeve stitches are then transferred to knitting needles, the underarm stitches are picked up, and the sleeve is knit top to bottom, finishing with fun colorwork motifs and a rolled cuff.
